POLYPHASIC SLEEP
In general, the longer a waking period seems, the more tired, unproductive, and sporadic you will feel. The brain likely recognizes a sensation of a long duration of time ahead of it and slows down in order to successfully span the entire time. The reverse would almost necessarily occur as well.
3/4 of my waking periods follow the pattern set out by the Length-Productivity Phenomenon. However for me the waking period that seems to be the second longest is the hardest to stay awake in. After I wake from my nap at 7am I often feel the worst out of the whole day. This result makes sense because the body is used to waking from a much longer, core-cycle around this time.
For example, my transition process before trying the Dymaxion sleep schedule consisted of a 4-6 hour core sleeping segment at night and 3 daytime naps. The daytime naps were nearly identical to the daytime naps I have now, so the transition was surely much easier. However, my nighttime core period and my current 30 min nap sections are very different.
